I'm in the midst of midterms, so right now is a great time to remind myself what I'm working toward. Nursing school is only the means to the end, although right now, it feels like the end. The reason I began this journey is to help people in parts of the world where their is little or no medical care. When I was in high school taking biology my teacher said something that changed my life forever, she told me that, "thousands of people die everyday form completely preventable diseases." In 2012, over 1.5 million people died from HIV(World Health Organization, 2015). These statistics break my heart because HIV can be prevented through vaccines and education. When I am finished with school, I hope to help prevent the spread of infections, like HIV, through education and providing access to vaccines for people in third world countries. |
